I don’t care about ‘fighting’. What I’m capable of is...something ‘different’: immediately ‘killing’.

—Yun Taesu

Yun Taesu was a serial murderer who terrorised the Metropolitan Area.

Appearance[]

Yun Taesu was of average height and build, and initially had black eyes and shoulder length hair coloured black except for the strands dangling from the forehead which he dyed aquamarine. However as his metamorphosis proceeded, his outward appearance became more and more similar to Jegal Taek.

The outfit Yun Taesu dressed himself in the most was a white T-shirt and jeans, and when there’s a need to disguise his face he wore sunglasses and a dark grey cap.

Personality[]

Taesu was a natural born killer who had a habit of getting his murder tendancies ignited under moonlight, though he still bore a twisted sense of honour and would keep promises. He was madly in love with Taek in a perverted fashion and tried his best to mimic Taek in every way, hoping one day either one of them will end up killing and devouring the other, which gave him a mindset that was immune to the temptations of Sakura Yui. In addition he liked the songs of Maroon-5.

History[]

After dropping out of middle school, one day Taesu witnessed Taek who visited Seoul on a school excursion brutally thrashing Gang Manseok, and became infatuated with the sheer violence and cruelty he displayed. Taesu later travelled to Busan on Taek’s middle school graduation to challenge him, resulting in getting beaten half-dead, but Taesu managed to tear away a handful of Taek’s hair which he subsequently ate up.

He then went and borrowed a room from an old couple living in the countryside of Gyeongsangnam-do to stay at whenever Taek was in Busan, and used an abandoned apartment complex in Seoul at which he set up CCTV all over as a hideout for instances when Taek headed to the capital city. For years Taesu stalked Taek, but after seeing Taek not acting as the expected psychopathic killer when revisiting his childhood neighbourhood, Taesu in a fit of denial began subconsciously transmuting his appearance to look more like Taek.

With the awakening of his Charyeok, Taesu started honing his skills in homicide and escape. Thanks to South Korean law not covering Charyeok-usage at all, even though he was repeatedly taken into questioning by police for the killings of 6 people, he always got released due to lack of evidence. And when Charyeok-Users like Sin Taepung and Eric Sin came to get him, Taesu was still able to get them hospitalised for days without difficulty.

Heroes of Street[]

Under the alias “Hong Gildong” both online and in the real world, Taesu closely monitored all news about Taek’s performance in the G.O.H. Tournament, keeping a detailed schedule and record of Taek’s actions whenever possible, and killed Tteok Hoppang because the internet broadcast jockey disparaged Taek. Later when going to COEX to participate in a quiz game about the tournament in order to win an autographed figurine of Taek, Taesu was spared from responding with violence to calls for him to give up the hard won figurine thanks to the intervention of Gang Daehyeop. Daehyeop subsequently challenged Taesu to a tough rock paper scissors match, and finding Daehyeop one of the few people who fairly evaluate Taek’s martial prowess, Taesu invited him to stay at his hideout, where he enjoyed a rare night of fun with his new friend.

The next morning, Taesu saw Daehyeop off to his interview with Shadow without issue, yet on the following night, the police under the command of Baek Yeonwoo began advancing into his hideout. Taesu responded by using the CCTV to pinpoint the locations of the police so that he can pierce them with shark teeth from afar, though he was later forced to patrol the premises in order to kill them because Yeonwoo ordered the CCTV cameras shot out. Soon afterwards a wounded Daehyeop arrived on scene intent on fulfilling the Shadow operation of taking him out, inflicting telling injury on Taesu while expertly dodging shark teeth. But then Taesu unleashed sharks on Daehyeop, causing the apartment complex to collapse, followed by mutilating more police in the semblance of a demon king, which caused all spectators including Violet Ella Wong Perez and Justin to be stunned. Upon emerging from the ruins, Daehyeop managed to beat up Taesu further until his battered body finally failed him. Yet before Taesu could finish Daehyeop off, Taepung came skydiving down to blast him with wind and a ball of hurricane.

Taesu was later rescued by Violet who took him back to one of Nox’s hideouts, where Sang Mandeok gave him a baptism to heal him in hopes that he may be of use against Park Mubong. Spending days recuperating in a cell as his body morphed more rapidly to look like Taek, Taesu was released by Ban Sihyeon, but on his way out discovered Violet having her fingers cut off by other Apostles for being a turncoat. Butchering the torturers and other resisting Nox followers in the hideout, Taesu preserved Violet’s severed fingers with ice and brought her to Seoul, just in time to witness Daehyeop and Taepung who were mind controlled by Yui fight each other. Under the appeals of Violet, Taesu stopped Hajime Ryo from crippling the defeated Daehyeop before going on a killing spree against Yamato’s Marionettes using Taek’s Charyeok. He then got into a standoff with Vincent, and agreed to back down on Daehyeop’s request when the Nine Dragons forces retreated.

Planning to leave Seoul after wishing Daehyeop luck, Taesu stalked Taek who was returning to the J.G. Group headquarters, only to find Yui and Hiro laying in wait in front of it. Despite Taek and Taesu summoning teeth to impale them, Yui just like Hiro regenerated from the wounds before controlling thousands of men in the vicinity to attack them. Getting away with a bad taste in his mouth regarding this reunion with Taek, Taesu headed to Busan, where on ‘D-Day’ he witnessed the beautiful sight of Hiro declaring his love to Yui under a cliff. He was later led by the couple to Yamato, and subsequently devoured the mad scientist who dared make a mess of Taek’s hometown with Greed. Further agreeing to help Yui inform Daehyeop about Ryo being the mastermind behind the Dream Skull conspiracy for half of her fortune, Taesu showed up as Daehyeop and his Shadow colleagues were running from the government to give them financial aid.

The Key[]

Abilities[]

Despite putting much effort into honing his killing skills with Charyeok and practising parkour for escaping purposes, Yun Taesu is not the type for engaging in combat, preferring to strike surprisingly at the weak spots of his prey instead of frontal confrontations.

Superhuman Reflexes: Yun Taesu has exceedingly advanced reflexes, able to match those of trained fighters like Gang Daehyeop.

Superhuman Agility: Yun Taesu is extremely agile, having practised how to move his body while mid-air or in difficult positions.

Charyeok[]

White Shark is the personal Charyeok of Yun Taesu. It can summon shark teeth at specific positions, which is useful for killing somebody quickly.

  • Porcupine: Summons a small enamel-coloured orb at specific positions that will subsequently burst into a spiked ball of shark teeth.
  • Lock On: Targeting with his eyes the position where his prey is occupying or will occupy, Yun Taesu can summon shark teeth to erupt individually or in ‘porcupine’ style from within the prey’s body.
  • Teeth Shield: Yun Taesu can summon shark teeth around himself to act as a shield for blocking attacks. The teeth can also be used to hang other things like corpses for serving as meat shields.
  • Shark Swarm: Summons a swarm of sharks with skeletal bodies and jaws that can pulverise concrete to pile in on the prey.

After Sang Mandeok helped heal his wounds, Yun Taesu becomes capable of using Jegal Taek’s Charyeoks Megalodon and Greed, though in spite of them being more powerful, Yun Taesu finds them too combat-oriented and short-ranged for his liking.

  • Thorny Road: Summons a forest of megalodon teeth that bursts from the ground to impale multiple opponents simultaneously.

Prayer Awakening[]

Yun Taesu is one of the rare Prayer Awakeners, and since his greatest wish is to become like Jegal Taek, his powers gradually transmuted his appearance to look more and more similar to his lover.

Martial Arts[]

Having closely studied videos of Jegal Taek’s fighting styles as well as the experience from being on the receiving end, Yun Taesu has an intimate knowledge of the techniques he uses, and as such is able to mimic them in emergencies.

  • Falling Flowers: A move to counterattack an incoming kick by deftly striking at the weak spot of the ankle joint.
  • Bajiquan: Iron Mountain: A move Jegal Taek mimicked from a user of Bajiquan that can be utilised for countering.

Weapons[]

As he comes into conflict with police and assassins, Yun Taesu also familiarised himself with the usage of firearms that he pried from their dead fingers.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • He is the main reason the novel got labelled with an intense violence rating.
