Tang Samjang was a descendant of Gaia who was tricked by Tathagata into embarking on a journey with his disciples that would end in the deaths of most of The Pilgrims. She was the nun who freed Sun Wukong who later became Jin Mori's teacher and lover.
It is later revealed that after her death he had reached Nirvana and gone to Heaven, where she last met Dan Mori due to Maitreya's decision.
Appearance[]
Tang Sanzang is a beautiful woman with long, brown hair. She has dark brown eyes with yellow pupils, similar to Mori Jin. She is seen wearing a dress similar to Indian traditional clothing - Mekhela chador. She dons a transparent head scarf with red lining.
History[]
She was seen as a child helping a group of sick people from a village before meeting Subhuti, this meeting revealed not only to Subhuti but to the rest of the gods that Gaia's power was being passed down to humans (prophets).
Later it is seen that she became a nun and before embarking on her trip to India, she would meet and ask Sun Wukong to accompany her on her trip. She asked the gods to release Sun Wukong from his prison to which they agreed, it was at this time that she and Jin Mori began their journey to India.
During the trip Samjang taught his disciples new martial techniques so that they can be safe during their journey, this fighting style has the same roots as the Full Contact Karate. During his trip he would meet other monsters who joined him and thus formed his new group, he also taught Sun Wukong the value of life and that he should not follow the path of Asura.
On this journey, Xuanzang and Sun Wukong began to have a romantic relationship that only grew stronger as the end of their journey neared.
Before arriving in India, Jin Mori ( as Sun Wukong) exiled Ryong from the group, telling him that he was a nuisance because he was too weak. She told him that she was very kind but that she should learn to express her emotions better.
Arriving in India and meeting Tathagata, she refused to be the Buddha's sacrifice, telling him that the true paradise is one built with the happiness of all without sacrifices. Tathagata told her that she had attained enlightenment and that is why she would be eaten by him and that, for refusing to be eaten, humans and her disciples would be destroyed.
Seeing how Tathagata killed his disciples, she asked Sun Wukong, her lover, to eat her alive so that she would gain the necessary power to defeat Tathagata, to which he agreed.
After the death of the supreme god, Ryong found Xuanzang's bloody clothes, Tathagata appeared before Ryong and told him that Sun Wukong had eaten her alive. Due to the lack of information, the anger of being rejected by his brother, and the pain of losing his master, Ryong agreed to become one of the Four Pillars of Fate.
After Park Mubong's death, Tang Sanzang meets Jin Mori in heaven and tells him that the universe was severely damaged by the fight between Dan Mori and Mujin, but the damage can be repaired. She also tells him that Jin Mori has become a true god. He can choose to cut her ties with the world and go to heaven with her and balance the universe as an absolute being free from natural laws or return to the world to wage an eternal fight against the faeries remaining and beasts emerging from the dimensional rifts.
Maitreya chooses both and restores the earth, he says he chooses to be an absolute being but keeping all the ties he formed with the world. Tang Sanzang tells Jin Mori that this is the last time they see each other, she also tells him to enjoy life. Mori also bids a tearful goodbye to Xuanzang.
