—Sin Yunseong, at the opening ceremony of Shadow

Sin Yunseong was the Chief Executive Officer of Shadow.

Appearance[]

Sin Yunseong looked like a gentleman in his 30s despite his actual age already nearing the 50s, earning him the nickname “Baby Face” from the female staff since his days at Sixsung. He kept his hair neatly combed, and was generally dressed in a business suit with a brown overcoat.

Personality[]

Yunseong was initially polite and composed, and even in stressful situations can find ways to keep calm. He had a selfless attitude towards life despite his sister before her marriage suggesting that he live for himself, and was willing to expose himself to danger for the good of his subordinates and innocent people. He also had a reluctance against killing, even if those killed were fanatical extremists trying to kill him.

However, ever since the battle at BEXCO where he was forced to kill scores of innocents, Yunseong took on a negative view on the world as the guilt and trauma weighed down on him, making him smoke and drink more as well as unable to fight when it means harming innocents.

History[]

15 years ago when he first joined Sixsung Corporation, Yunseong was sent to one of the company’s oil drilling operations in Russia. After an employee fell into an icy lake and drowned, Yunseong despite calls to stop jumped in to recover the body, earning the commendation of Jeon Jaesan, who took him in as an apprentice while letting him be Jeon Jugok’s tutor.

Yunseong went on to rise quickly in Sixsung, becoming the chief secretary directly answerable to Jaesan and charming a large portion of employees. He adopted the orphans Eric Sin and Sin Taepung as his sons, training them to become guardians of justice. And one time he treated Lee Sujin who was fascinated with fast foods to a meal.

Hearing of Jugok’s intent to participate in the G.O.H. Tournament, Yunseong tried to talk him out of it with wise advice, though it fell on deaf ears. When Jaesan planned to establish a secret subsidiary that is Shadow in response to the increase of Charyeok Users committing crimes and the growing threat of Nox, it was Yunseong who got selected to head it.

Plot[]

Eclipse[]

Heroes of Street[]

Yunseong quit Sixsung so that he can go head Shadow, bringing with him Park Jinoh and many other Sixsung employees. Requested by the government to prove Shadow’s worth, Yunseong with the help of Violet Ella Wong Perez and other staff gathered all unsanctioned Charyeok Users in South Korea who weren’t involved in the G.O.H. Tournament that he could find for a hiring interview, during which he eliminated the Charyeok of those too weak to be of use with the Injector, leaving only Justin, Han Yewon and Gang Daehyeop.

After persuading Daehyeop who had been disappointed that the interview wasn’t connected to the G.O.H. Tournament into continuing, including using a satellite hack to demonstrate Shadow’s power, Yunseong proceeded to have the candidates test their skills in a field operation targeting the serial murderer Yun Taesu. When Daehyeop’s acquaintance with Taesu was revealed, Yunseong ordered him removed from the operation, and in return had Daehyeop question the purity of Shadow’s mission. Handing the remaining candidates Shield Suits, Yunseong drove them towards Taesu’s hideout, but on the way nearly got blown up by Justin, who like Violet was actually a spy from Nox sent to gather intelligence on Shadow as well as kill him. Beginning to modify his company policies due to Daehyeop’s earlier questioning, Yunseong resumed heading to the hideout where the police under Baek Yeonwoo’s command were getting slaughtered, while telling Yewon to find Daehyeop and give him the support needed for him to take on Taesu. They later ran into Justin who tried to finish the job, and subsequent to disintegrating his skin with a contingency spell weaved into his Shield Suit, Yunseong effortlessly killed all the fanatical extremists under Violet’s command, then defeated Violet despite her steal casting his magic spells, though she was still able to escape with Justin.

Yunseong managed to get over the trauma of killing, and orchestrated an opening ceremony explaining the missions of Shadow which had now gained the government’s recognition as well as the backing of special police forces headed by Yeonwoo. Later when interrogating Daehyeop after Jinoh discovered him consorting with Violet, Yunseong got a call from Yamato saying that he had taken the prime minister hostage. Heading out to meet Yamato and his Nine Dragons minions alone, Yunseong was enticed by Sakura Yui’s mind control into spilling out everything about Shadow including its secret headquarters’ location and entrances. Forced to carry a time bomb with him back to the headquarters, Yunseong regained enough will to warn Daehyeop, Taepung and Eric of an impending attack, before taking the bomb with him to high up above Seoul where its detonation will not harm anybody else.

Falling into the Han River wounded, Yunseong got rescued by Sujin, and upon seeing her Charyeok cancelling powers asked her to help stop Yamato’s conspiracy of mind controlling the world with Dream Skulls. He reunited with Daehyeop at COEX on ‘D-Day’, where he discovered the Nine Dragons event there was only a diversion. Bringing Daehyeop and Sujin to Busan where Yamato was planning to release the Dream Skulls at BEXCO, Yunseong and Sujin went to seek out Yamato and Yui. After Sujin who prevented Yui from mind controlling civilians with her Charyeok left because she found out that Shadow is an enemy of Nox, Yunseong cast a command on himself to kill Yui at all costs so that he won’t get controlled, allowing him to kill scores of innocent people under the control of Dream Skulls whom Yui threw at him. Running into Seo Yuri and Ban Sihyeon while Yui was transforming into a titanic spider, he and Sihyeon joined forces to fight Yui who tried to break her way out of Sihyeon’s Dungeon. Yunseong soon found their regular attacks useless, thus summoned a gigantic meteor capable of obliterating Busan, then subsequent to Hiro shattering the meteor and stopping Yui’s rampage collapsed from exhaustion.

After getting flown back to a hospital in Seoul, all the guilt and trauma began catching up on him, prompting Yunseong to have an argument with a distressed Jaesan over Jugok’s failure in the G.O.H. Tournament. He was discharged from hospital once the government who had begun viewing Shadow as a threat was forced to ask for their help in dealing with Hajime Ryo’s menace in Japan, so drawing from his own mental ordeal, Yunseong trained Daehyeop how to release his true power with enough control to defeat strong adversaries while leaving them alive.

Taking Daehyeop and Yewon to Nagoya, Yunseong gave directions to the self-defense force before taking Yewon to Nine Dragons’ headquarters, but on the way they were ambushed by thousands of civilians under Ryo’s mind control. Unable to fight due to the mental trauma resurfacing, Yunseong let Yewon escape while he got captured and tied up to the Yggdrasil where his Charyeok energies were drained.

Following Ryo’s defeat and the wilting of the Yggdrasil, Yunseong returned to South Korea determined to rebuild Shadow, only to find himself rejected by Jugok and disowned by Jaesan.
