Seo Hallyang (서한량, Seo Hal-Lyang; "Hallyang Seo") was a member of The Six. He was the 27th leader of the National Homeless Association prior to giving that title to Yu Mira. He was an advanced weapons expert, capable of using 108 National Treasures.

Appearance[]

He was dressed in a standard homeless outfit; a worn out hat, an old coat over a jacket and a shirt. His eyes were rarely seen beneath his bangs. He had brown-purple hair in a ponytail and slight stubble on his chin.

He was usually seen lugging around his various weapons around with him in a cart.

Personality[]

He had a mischievous personality and was quick to take money from Jin Mori and Jin Pumgwang's wallet and started fighting when they tried to take it back.

Before his fight with Jin Taejin, Hallyang was rather arrogant and temperamental. This earned him the nickname, "The Hulk" among the Six.

History[]

At some point in the past, Seo Hallyang was appointed as 27th leader of the National Homeless Association and received Gáe Bolg, a weapon that he would master the most among his 108 National Treasures.

17 years ago, The Six fought Jin Taejin and were defeated, sinking 10% of South Korea in the process. After this humiliating defeat, Hallyang lost his arrogance and temperament, becoming much calmer and mischievous.

Plot[]

A Round With God[]

Tournament Preliminaries Arc[]

At the end of the preliminaries, Park Mubong summoned The Six, one of them is Seo Hallyang who was busy begging.

The National Competition[]

Nationals[]

Seo Hallyang was begging for alms in Seoul Station when Metropolitan teams arrived. Jin Mori wanted to give him ‎₩1000, but he took ‎₩50,000 by his staff, playing with Mori who was trying to take it back. then he took Jin Pumgwang's ₩50,000 too, causing the the victims to tag-team. Jin Mori finally resorted to his acupuncture, but Hallyang somehow negated its effect and hit him in the head. He gave back Pumgwang's money and took Mori's for his 'injury'. The money was used to buy food for his subordinates. He then wondered why Na Bongchim taught Jin Taejin's grandson his personal fighting techniques.

During verbal sparring between Park Mubong and Bongchim, he arrived to The Six's meeting, calling them out for arguing which is the best, Charyeok fighters or Genuine fighters.

Later, during the fight between Metropolitan Team and the Jeju Island Team, Hallyang asked Bongchim on taking Jin Mori as an apprentice, during which the Divine Doctor claimed that he only did it to piss off Jin Taejin. After watching Jin Mori defeating the whole team by himself, Hallyang, Jeon Jaesan, and Bongchim was left throbbing as they remembered bad memories (their fight with Jin Taejin). Bongchim then claimed that everyone of The Six could do what Mori did at Mori's age, but Hallyang denied it in his mind.

When Sang Mandeok used a nephilim to attack Park Mubong, Hallyang, and his homeless subordinates destroyed the nephilim's sword.

Adventures[]

Ragnarök[]

Abilities[]

Hallyang was a member of The Six, a very strong martial artist and a non-Charyeok user. He was easily able to fight off Jin Mori and Jin Pumgwang. Later, he showed an instance of his true ability by fighting Hui Mori, a copy of a god who was using his full power, and managed to injure him badly, although he lost. During advent of the gods, he fought Zeus, a Heavenly Realm's god, and managed to injure him, albeit barely.

  • Superhuman Agility: Due to the natural strengthening of his body from being a genuine fighter, he was agile enough to get away from Hui Mori, a copy of a god. His agility also allowed him to fight Zeus for a while.
  • Superhuman Strength: Seo Hallyang showed some instance of having a strength well beyond normal fighters, due to the natural strengthening of his body from being a genuine fighter. Coupled with his mastery over National Treasures and martial arts, it allowed him to damage body of a God as durable as Zeus, albeit barely.
  • High Intelligence: He had shown to have accurate deductive abilities, as he was able to quickly figure out the weaknesses of Jaecheondaesong Mode in the middle of a fight and use it to his advantage. He also managed to put a grenade inside Zeus' mouth by sacrificing his hand, knocking a tooth from the god's mouth.

Martial Arts[]

Hallyang Style Pumba[]

Hallyang’s fighting style was called Pumba. This style covered a variety of weapons, including but not limited to: staffs and swords. This style allowed him to seemingly bend his weapon in impossible ways, as he demonstrated with his staff.

  • Pumba Zero Stance: Panhandler: Hallyang’s ultimate technique, he spun around, swinging Gáe Bolg diagonally across his enemy's chest and splitting the ground in a huge semi-circle, creating a massive fissure in the process. This was strong enough to leave a large bruise across Zeus's chest.
  • 8th Verse: Beggar's Song Dance: He used Gáe Bolg as a spear, this technique allowed him to attack from all directions by swinging his staff around him like a sphere deflecting all incoming attacks and nearby enemies. This was one of the technique he taught to Hui Mori and Jin Mori.
  • 13th Verse: Serpent: He bent Gáe Bolg flexibly, allowing him to weave his staff around obstacles to land hits on his opponent.
  • 17th Verse: Ryuck Geun: After squeezing all the muscles in his body, Hallyang swung his staff downward. This was one of the techniques he taught to Hui Mori.
  • 19th Verse: Dog Seller: Spinning his staff, the Hallyang halted the spin with his hands. The spin sucked in the surrounding air, then he unleashed the air, creating a whirlwind that destroyed anything between him and his enemy. This was one of the technique he taught to Hui Mori.
  • Gaksu-Golyi: A skill created by observing Renewal Taekwondo: Hoe Grab. Hallyang used his staff to deflect an enemy's attack. He taught this technique to Hui Mori.
  • The Ultimate: Hallyang spun his staff around with one hand then thrust it towards his opponent creating a huge shock wave. The results of this technique wasn't shown, because when he used it for the first time, Zeus blocked and overpowered it with his fingers.

National Treasure and Weapons[]

He had a mischievous personality and was quick to take money from Jin Mori and Jin Pumgwang's wallet and started fighting when they tried to take it back.

108 Torments of Mankind[]

They are the 108 National Treasures used by Seo Hallyang, which are also called the 108 agonies. These included swords, staffs, bazookas, grenade, blades, axes, lances, rifles and spears. He was very skilled with these weapons as he, along with his subordinates, were able to destroy the sword made by Sang Mandeok, which even Mubong was having trouble stopping. He also created his own styles for each weapon type that he taught to Jin Mori, Hui Mori, and Yu Mira. They were collectively called Hallyang Style Pumba. All of his National Treasures, sans Gáe Bolg, were broken when he loaned them to Hui Mori during the fight against The King in Dante's body.[1] The most used weapons were:

  • Gáe Bolg: A wooden staff that Hallyang used the most during his fights and one that symbolized his status as leader of National Assembly of the Homeless. Despite its rather plain look, in Hallyang’s hand it could even hurt a god's body.
  • Cho-hong: A katana.
  • Chuseok: A scoped gun with a very long barrel.
  • Dabo: A cleaver-like sword.
  • Daeungjeon: A cleaver-like sword with a double-edge.
  • Green Ring: A black and green lance.
  • K2: An assault rifle.
  • K15: A white bazooka.
  • Mugunghwa: An axe with yellow pointed-tip on either ends.
  • Mireu: A mounted sniper rifle.
  • Seorak: A white axe with yellow ring and brown pattern.
  • Blue Cloud Sword: A sword that can pierce ten meter thick wall.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • For some strange reason, LINE Webtoons translated his named as "Seo Hallyang", which is incorrect. The hangul for his name is "" which is transliterated as "Seo-Han-Ryang". The name "Seo-Hal-Ryang" (which would thus be romanised as "Seo Hallyang") would actually be "서량".
  • Seo Hallyang appears to have been based on the character Hong Qigong from the Chinese wuxia novel Legend of Condor Heroes. Similar to Seo Hallyang, Hong Qigong was the chief of the Beggars' Sect, a league of beggars that spanned all over China. He wields the Dog Beating Staff, which like Seo Hallyang’s Gáe Bolg, symbolizes one's status as leader of the Beggars' Sect. The Dog Beating Staff also comes with a martial art, the Dog Beating Staff Technique, that is known for its unpredictable movements and endless variations, something Seo Hallyang displays too in his staff fighting. And later in the story, Hong Qigong names the novel's heroine as the new chief of the Beggar's Sect, which Seo Hallyang ends up doing too in this manhwa.
  • In the anime, one of Seo Hallyang’s National Treasures was a demonic mask. When he used it, it caused a massive head to sprout from the portal that he was attacking through to break apart Sang Mandeok's sword.
