We are already living (in hell), though you don’t seem know it. That’s why I am thinking of informing people about that fact.

—Hajime Ryo, to Ogawa Shinji

Hajime Ryo was a lieutenant of Nine Dragons.

Appearance[]

Hajime Ryo initially appeared as a courteous and quiet man with squinting eyes and black hair neatly combed who tidily wore a full business suit. After reverting to his true personality, he in addition to opening his eyes wide rumpled his hair to let it fall untidily, while removing his tie and unbuttoning his suit jacket and neck buttons to look more like a rascal.

Personality[]

Ryo was a total psychopath who enjoyed nothing but killing, despoiling and torturing in the cruelest way possible for the sake of his entertainment. However he was also patient with gathering the might needed to fulfill his desires, deigning to put on a façade as a humble subordinate to the powerful while manipulating them to his own ends, before betraying them to usurp their powers. As such Ryo didn’t believe in depending on the power of armies, instead relying on his own personal powers to get what he wanted.

History[]

15 years ago when fighting against rebel forces as a mercenary in Africa, Ryo met his fellow mercenary Vincent whose martial prowess he had admired. Later introduced to Vincent’s ailing sister Sofia, Ryo seduced and then raped her after her heart transplant, causing her condition to worsen as well as go mad.

After joining Nine Dragons, Ryo was ordered to make an example of Eric Sin’s father who had stolen some cocaine he was smuggling for the yakuza organisation. Leading a mob of masked underlings as well as ‘V’ whom Ryo found out through a thorough background check was actually Vincent, Ryo barged into the shipping broker’s home to find his wife and son also present. While Eric’s father was ordered beaten in the basement, Ryo upon hearing Vincent’s misgivings on dragging women and children into this instead instructed the underlings to rape Eric’s mother, and only agreed to spare Eric who was promptly carried from the scene by Vincent out of amusement. He then brutally murdered Eric’s parents and sawed them into pieces, before locking Eric in the basement with the dismembered corpses.

Ryo was one of Yamato’s escorts when he went to make an offer to Sakura Yui, and by saving Yamato from Yui’s ‘dogs’ that had tore the other escorting underlings apart, he became the mad scientist’s personal aide. On the day Yamato began his disastrous experiment on Yui, Ryo met Abel who saw him as the candidate for becoming the sole Charyeok User in the world and bringing on the ‘ultimate peace’. Gifted with Charyeok as well as the Yggdrasil, Ryo followed Abel’s instructions and kept a low profile until the time was right.

For 7 years Ryo manipulated Yamato to fulfill his own goals, all the while secretly nurturing the Yggdrasil and appropriating the Dream Skull design to make another version of the device for his own conspiracy. In the meantime he also subverted the loyalty of many Nine Dragons members away from Ogawa Shinji.

Plot[]

Eclipse[]

Heroes of Street[]

Ryo followed Yamato to South Korea alongside Yui, Vincent and an army of Marionettes after Sang Mandeok ordered the exiled Priest to eliminate the threat of Shadow, and was required to do little other than prevent Axley Ivanovic from harming Yamato upon their arrival at Busan. Throughout the whole attack on Shadow’s secret headquarters, Ryo dutifully performed his role as Yamato’s adjutant without attracting attention, the only issue faced being him injured by Yun Taesu’s surprise attack right before he was about to cripple Gang Daehyeop.

During Yamato’s preparation for ‘D-Day’, Ryo was ordered away to ensure that the Dream Skulls would be distributed worldwide while Vincent was to safeguard a shipment of Energy Stone scraps back to Japan. Ryo thus took this opportunity to usurp the Ouroboros as well as order those in Nine Dragons who were loyal to him to start a coup against Shinji, before heading back to Japan on the cargo ship containing the Energy Stone scraps that Vincent turned out to have not boarded. Dumping the Energy Stone scraps that were useless to him in the middle of the sea, Ryo arrived at Ishigaki Island to be greeted by Hazuki and a thousand underlings loyal to him. After hearing reports that the Nine Dragons headquarters in Nagoya are now under their faction’s control, Ryo forced Shinji who was brought in front of him to commit seppuku before decapitating him.

Returning to Nine Dragons Hall to be visited by Yui and Hiro who aimed to find clues about the Key, Ryo instead showed them the Yggdrasil taking root in Yamato’s laboratory and explained how he and Abel had worked together to link it onto the network of Charyeok-draining Dream Skulls through the Ouroboros. Subsequently demonstrating its function by draining the Charyeok energies from the hundreds of Charyeok Users who had donned the Dream Skulls, Ryo used his skyrocketed physical abilities to effortlessly beat Hiro down so hard he became incapacitated, then stopped Yui before she could mind control him and tied her to the Yggdrasil where her Charyeok energy was slowly drained.

As Nagoya became a battlefield between Nine Dragons and the coalition of yakuza organisations allied to Yamaguchi-gumi who were aiming to avenge Shinji, causing an outflow of refugees as well as the mobilisation of riot police and self-defence force, Ryo found himself the target of Vincent and Eric who had seized to chance to avenge their families, yet with little trouble he rendered their weapons and Charyeok useless before sending them to join Yui. Later during a live broadcast through the local television network, Ryo killed scores of riot police in a demonstration of power. He then declared his intent to be the boss of the world and challenged any Charyeok User to come get at him, while forcing all of the yakuzas and riot police into killing each other for survival. A team of Charyeok Users sent by the Japanese government soon showed up against Ryo, only to have some of them tortured and killed in humiliating and sadistic ways while the rest got taken by residents turned into Marionettes to the Yggdrasil as fodder.

Following Daehyeop’s arrival, the pair began a ferocious battle that spread destruction all over the city, and Ryo got surprised by Daehyeop’s martial prowess despite the Shadow Field Agent already fatigued. But when both of them suffered handicapping wounds, Ryo went to drain Charyeok energy from the Yggdrasil to fully heal himself in addition to powering up. He proceeded to easily batter Daehyeop to the brink of death, only to have him fully healed by Han Yewon. In the ensuing battle Ryo got totally overwhelmed by Daehyeop now exhibiting his full power, and with the Yggdrasil wilting because of the Ouroboros’ destruction, Ryo was forced to flee.

The Key[]

Abilities[]

Hajime Ryo is a powerful fighter learned in many combat skills since his days as a mercenary, and as a yakuza continued to keep his skills fresh, though his fighting style is focused more on raw power than techniques.

And despite having fought all over the world, Ryo has not bothered to learn Korean, so he just speaks Japanese to Koreans without caring if the listener understands.

Superhuman Reflexes: Having survived various warzones around the world, Hajime Ryo built up astounding reflexes for dodging attacks.

Superhuman Agility: Hajime Ryo has shown himself to be quite agile, and is able to weave through the maelstrom of melee to strike at the right spots or people.

Charyeok[]

Soul Eater is the Charyeok of Hajime Ryo that was gifted to him by Abel. It drains the Charyeok energy from other Charyeok Users to enhance his physical abilities, though the powers are not unlimited and will eventually run out.

When the drained powers are utilised, it ignites a green aura that burns around him, and once the power level reaches “perfect form” the aura colour turns to black.

  • Soul Eating: Grabbing an incapacitated Charyeok User, Hajime Ryo can drain them of their Charyeok energy.
    • Final Skill: Yggdrasil: Lets Hajime Ryo drain the Charyeok energies from Charyeok Users donning Dream Skulls or tied to the roots of the Yggdrasil into himself.
    • Enhanced Strength: For every ten Charyeok Users he drains, Hajime Ryo’s strength increases by that of one person. This not only makes his limbs mighty, but also allows him to blow people down by exhaling or shatter glass by bellowing.
    • Enhanced Endurance: Hajime Ryo can endure overwhelming amounts of punishment including point blank gunshots in an unarmoured spot, and with the aura protecting him he can bear getting smashed through hundreds of metres of rock.
    • Enhanced Reflexes: Hajime Ryo has his reflexes further boosted, and can respond to his adversaries’ actions at their slightest hint of movement.
    • Enhanced Speed: Hajime Ryo’s speed gets heightened, allowing him to close in with his opponents before they can finish an attack or activate their Charyeok.
    • Barrier: Allows Hajime Ryo to generate a Barrier for shielding against common attacks.
    • Aura Moulding: When the aura attains “perfect form”, it can be moulded into different shapes such as hammers to enhance attacks and wings to enable flight.

Weapons[]

Hajime Ryo has used various types of military weapons when working as a mercenary, and as a yakuza has wielded katanas including one owned by Ogawa Shinji.
