The gods are the races of extremely powerful divine entities that live in the Heavenly Realm, a parallel dimension. They are the main villains in The God of High School.
The gods can take many different forms and have many different abilities. However, they have some things in common, such as:
Invulnerability: The gods are immune to most phenomena. They can endure extreme temperatures, are unaffected by disease, and some can brush off attacks capable of destroying entire planets. Before the breaking of the Taboo, they can't be harmed by humans.
Enhanced Physical Abilities: The gods have immense physical power. They can move and react at blistering speeds, can destroy areas of land that dwarf cities with a single punch, and can lift incredibly heavy objects.
Core Element: The very essence and life of a god. For a god to making a pledge on it means they swear on their life.[1]
Longevity/Immortality: The gods are long-lived beings that can live for thousands of years, some are even immortal because due to their power they can no longer die from natural causes such as old age. Gods who lack immortality can avoid dying of old age by absorbing bio-energy to prolong their lifespan.
Classification[]
The gods of the Heavenly Realm have a strict hierarchy by which they abide. This hierarchy ranks the different types of gods according to their strength.
Angels: Lesser beings whom serve the gods. They generally act as soldiers and scouts in the Heavenly Armies. Angels are weaker than the other gods, but are still far stronger than humans and many demons. Humans can fight and defeat angels without breaking their taboo.
Nephilim: Powerful minor gods that act as elite soldiers in the Heavenly Armies. Nephilim are usually always accompanied by legions of angels which they seem to command. They have diverse forms, but they often appears as giant, winged, humanoid being dwarfing large cities, and often wield mountain-sized swords which can rip open the planet's crust. They are capable of flight, teleportation, and shooting destructive beams of energy.
Gods: These are the general populous of the gods, containing many deities and beings from mythology and legends. They include beings such as Heracles, Athena, Hades and Poseidon.
High Gods: As their name implies, these are an upper echelon of gods, whom have immense power and authority. They have been shown capable of possessing people. Most of them reside in First Heavenly Realm, with some exceptions such as Masters of Heavenly Realm that resides within their respective realm. Examples of High Gods are Zeus, Odin, Uriel and Michael.
Heavenly Princes: The Heavenly Princes are the children of the Jade Emperor and are bestowed with vast mystical powers. Their purpose is to exterminate all who oppose their father. They command massive armies of Nephilim. They normally take the appearance of humans, but in their true form appear to be beings of pure elemental energy.
Masters of Heavenly Realm: Rulers of Heavenly Realm, each commanding their respective sub-realm. It is unknown if this position is above, equal, or below the jade emperor in rank. One of the current holders of the position is 666:Satan and Garuda. This rank can be gained by defeating the current Masters, as 666:Satan did by defeating Beelzebub.
Jade Emperor: The first Jade Emperor was Ohkwang and he ruled the Heavenly Realm during the First Heavenly War, showing that at that time his rule was still considered absolute. But after the incident with The Original Way Of Borrowed Power, the first jade emperor chose to stay in the human realm to monitor the humans, while the duty of ruling the Heavenly Realm falls mainly on the Masters of the Heavenly Realms and the High Gods. The king also had the ability to rule the Sage Realm using Mihu as the nominal leader while the actual leadership rested with Nox. Ohkwang is now primarily seen as the ruler of Humanity by the High Gods and not superior to them.
Supreme Gods: A position superior to that of the gods because it is a position reserved for the strongest among them. Supreme gods cannot die from natural causes like old age, but they can die from unnatural causes, this is seen in how Odin states that Mori Jin became immortal by becoming an supreme god after devouring Tang Sanzang. This position has been vacant since the time of the Buddha. After RagnarÖk, this position is filled by Jin Mori, ironically of demonic origin after mastering the abilities of humans, demons, and gods. Park Mubong was also specified as one after absorbing and devouring the Tathagata.
Maitreya: The god of the prophecy. Maitreya was originally believed to be Park Mubong, but Dan Mori was later revealed to be the real Maitreya. It can be stated that Maitreya is also immortal because he proved to have enough power to surpass even the supreme gods, this is seen when Thatagata knelt before Jin Mori acknowledging him as the god Maitreya.
Contracts[]
The Gods of heavenly realm can make contracts with mortals. In the original system, the gods directly infuse the mortal's body with their own divine essence, giving them command over great power at heavy costs. With the collapse of the original system, a new way, the current system being used presently began. In the current system, the gods grant the mortal the ability to channel and manifest the entity's power as their own unique ability. This contracts system is referred to as Charyeok
Deification[]
It is possible for other races to become gods. Known forms of deification:
Absorption of bioenergy (vital energy): When Okhwang wanted to put Jin Tae-Jin through the Deification ritual, I had to consume an immense amount of life energy as the King had to wait until the bio-energy in the energy stone reached 100%. The gods also use this method to absorb bio-energy to extend their lifespan.
Intense training: The Nine Kings and the Nine-Tails Guardian, despite their origins as monsters, were able to become gods using their own power through intense training. Nine-Tails Guardian trained for a thousand years before becoming a god and personal guardian of the Jade Emperor.[2]
Absorbing and devouring others: During the final battle between Jin Mori and Mubong it is revealed that the Buddha became a supreme god by devouring and absorbing various gods and demons. This is the same method that Park Mubong used to become an supreme god by devouring and absorbing the previous overgod Tathagata.
Empowerment: It consists of receiving the power and abilities of others, the disadvantage of this method is that all those who offered their power to the user may lose their abilities permanently. This method is the one Jin Mori used to become the god Maitreya by receiving the power of all races (Gods, Humans, Demons). This method caused all humans and generation x to permanently lose their Charyeok.
The design of having the gods be the main villains of the story, who lord over the humans all the way from the safety of the Heavenly Realm through the actions of a few of their own kind stationed in the Human Realm and their human agents that is Nox, all the while demanding exorbitant tithes of human bio-energy as exchange for 'divine protection' in addition to cracking-down on any humans capriciously perceived to be dissidents at whim, is an apparent symbolism depicting how the general South Korean populace view the USA. As the regular South Koreans see it, the USA lords over them all the way from the safety of North America through the activities of US troops occupying South Korea and the South Korean regime that is established to serve US interests, all the while levying outrageous bills for the US military bases that the South Korean taxpayers have the pay, and any South Korean including presidents who the USA through whatever logic perceives to be posing a possible threat to US supremacy in the region will be eliminated politically and socially or even physically.
