Summary[]
During the meeting in her ward, Violet Ella Wong Perez told Park Jinoh and the others about Yamato’s goal for attacking Shadow that she had read from his mind, which consisted of gathering from Nox the Energy Stones that can be used in the Marionettes’ masks. As Park Jinoh in a contrast to Violet’s values commented on the Marionettes being unfortunate slaves, Han Yewon suggested that Yamato may have recruited the large numbers of people he needs to put on the masks through his popular gaming company, now that online games had replaced music as a power that can overthrow nations. She further elaborated that Nine Dragon Games had developed a head mount display known as the Dream Skull which allow gamers to play games using their faces, effectively luring people to put on the masks. Recalling that Yamato had started his gaming enterprise after being exiled from Nox, Park Jinoh and Violet reasoned he is trying to start a coup. Yu Chiyeoung then suggested they sit back and let Yamato and Nox fight it out, but Gang Daehyeop and Park Jinoh objected because it would only mean more innocent gamers being turned into Marionettes. Keeping in mind the possibility of Violet using Shadow to fight Yamato’s coup in a bid to protect Nox, Park Jinoh concluded that Yamato will take the Energy Stones back to Japan where the facilities for processing them are located.
Han Yewon then wanted to mobilise the employees not sporting serious injuries, but Park Jinoh forbade it citing the need for their mental trauma to heal, earning him praise from Yu Chiyeoung. Comtemplating on the fact that over half of Shadow’s employees had handed in their resignations, Park Jinoh pointed out they now have to put finding a new headquarters to be their shelter as the priority. Yet Yu Chiyeoung revealed they no longer have the time to do that, and using his tablet showed everyone a live interview of Yamato advertising the widespread release of the new Dream Skull. As Park Jinoh pressed Yu Chiyeoung to try track down Yamato’s location, Han Yewon recognised the interview as a premeditated one that was being made at COEX. When Yamato announced there will initially be only 50 million sets marketed worldwide at economic prices because of difficulties in control, Han Yewon analysed that he was referring to the disconnection of senses between what is seen and heard through the head mount displays and what is felt from contact with keyboards and controllers, before pointing out the sensor gloves coming with the set are for alleviating this problem though mimicking the in-game sense of touch. While the Shadow crew realised that the Dream Skulls will sell out of stock all over the world in days now that billions will watch this video, Yamato promised to have the world totally changed on the release date that he calls ‘D-Day’ in 5 days time.
Although Han Yewon stressed the imperativeness of stopping Yamato, Yu Chiyeoung stated that in its current state of being understaffed and without a headquarters Shadow had practically lost any operational capabilities. With Violet pointing out that Justin serving at Yamato’s side means that Nox is still supporting Yamato, Han Yewon and Yu Chiyeoung started a heated debate over who and how to stop Yamato, during which Park Jinoh affirmed that no help can be expected from Park Mujin’s forces or The Six because they have their hands full with Nox. It was at this moment when a Gang Daehyeop still simmering with fury highlighted that the only question they have to ponder is whether to act or not, with Esna following up by declaring that Sin Yunseong and Eric Sin are still alive according to the microchips implanted in their arms. She then asked Park Jinoh to read a letter in Korean from Johnson that said he is going to test his newly invented Iron Arm in addition to offering his daughter to be Gang Daehyeop’s bride, to her great embarrassment. Revitalised in spirit, Gang Daehyeop reflected on how he learned to work with others since joining Shadow, before asking for the others’ guidance on how he should fight this battle.
Yamato who flanked by Hajime Ryo and Vincent returned to the car park, where he showed a waiting Justin the child’s ear that he used to threaten an executive into submission without firing a shot. As he arranged for the Energy Stones to be rushed to Japan and ordered Hajime Ryo to go make sure the 50 million Dream Skulls shipped to South Korea are ready for global distribution within 5 days, Yamato explained to a quizzical Justin that the Energy Stones he hoarded are for recharging the ones installed in the masks like one does with batteries, as a huge army still needs supplies for upkeep. After Yamato dispatched Vincent to guard the shipment of Energy Stones, Hajime Ryo reminded him that nobody will be left to guard him, but Yamato showed confidence that Sakura Yui alone is more than enough.
Dozens of Nox Sheep then appeared to present Yamato with Priest robes, before the leading Elite Sheep Alphonse stated that Axley had sent him and a bunch of new followers to assist Yamato. Accepting their support due to the fact that his Marionettes are all gone, Yamato commanded Alphonse to bring Seo Yuri to him.
