Baekdu is a knee attack delivered to the opponent. This technique belongs to both Renewal Taekwondo and Northern ITF Taekwondo users, although with slightly different purposes.

The Renewal Taekwondo version, on the other hand, is used to lift the opponent to the air to chain into more combo strikes.[1]

Variations[]

Northern ITF[]

The Northern ITF version Baekdu, the 'original', is used to entice the opponent into guarding, enabling the user to grab onto the head of the opponent and using it as leverage to deliver more, un-guardable kicks and knee attacks. The opponent's guard can also be nullified with Hoe Grab that leads to even more finishing options.[2]

Recoilless Baekdu[]

Recoilless Baekdu is the recoilless version of the Baekdu attack which is a knee attack delivered to the opponent.

Trivia[]

This move is named after the Baekdu Mountain in Korea.

Paektu Mountain or Baekdu Mountain (Korean: 백두산) is an active stratovolcano on the Chinese–North Korean border where it is the largest mountain in North Korea and Northeast China.
